For those of you travelling by train from Central. We will be at the entrance of platform 11 @ 10.30 (get your return ticket to Woy Woy first) see you then.

Well people, the final official event of the year is upon us.
To share the love with the coastal tribe we will be having the BBQ @/near Fishermans Wharf Woy Woy.

For those travelling from the city we will be looking to meet and travel by train from central station (will have notification of a meeting point soon)

Working it out

Working it Out: Stories from African-Australian Relationships is a new resource for people in mixed African-Australian relationships based on interviews with fifteen people about their personal experiences. The booklet includes stories, links and suggestions on a range of issues such as parenting, finances, problem solving and cultural difference.

The resource was funded by a grant from University of Western Sydney and produced by AAN Committee members Annie Stopford, Jill Sergeant and Cornel Robinson. A limited number of print copies are available or you can download it here. Working it Out was launched at the AAN fundraising dinner on Friday 27 November.

Annual general meeting

Australian African Network will be holding our AGM on Sunday 15 November.  All members of AAN are invited to join us.

Time: 10:00am – 10:30am

The meeting will be followed by an ordinary committee meeting which you are welcome to attend, and then we’ll have a coffee together.

AAN fundraising dinner and raffle

afrobeatsSydney Opera House has kindly given AAN two family passes of four tickets each to the Afro Beats Babies Prom with Afro Moses in early December. More info

Winners of the two family passes will be drawn at our fundraising dinner, coming up on Friday 27 November at the African Queen restaurant in Marrickville. We will also be launching a new resource for people in mixed relationships that’s been developed by three of our members.

Places are strictly limited so book now!

Money raised from these fundraisers will go towards public liability insurance for AAN events.

Come along and meet new people and families of mixed backgrounds. Bring some food to share, and enjoy good company. The children will enjoy exploring the animal exhibits in the park and there is plenty of room for bike riding or ball games.

Johnson Park has enclosed play equipment, a basketball court, and plenty of space for bikes and kicking a ball around.

There’s plenty of parking or it’s a short walk from the 425, 426, 428 & 445 Bus routes (get off near Dulwich Hill shops).

If it’s raining we will meet at Abla’s patisserie on New Canterbury Rd, Dulwich Hill (but they only serve cakes & drinks, so eat first). Call Suzanne on 0417 777 131 if the weather is uncertain.

Let’s dance!

The next event on AAN’s calendar is a night of dining and dancing on Saturday 5 September. A group of us are planning to go dancing at Taylors on Central, a club that has a regular African music night.

We’ll meet up for dinner at around 8.00pm somewhere in Sury Hills – walking distance from the club, then move on to the club at around 10.30pm. You can join us for dinner or dancing or both.

Taylors on Central is at 84 – 86 Mary St, Surry Hills, Sydney.
